Family Fun in the Cotswolds

Experience the magical sights, sounds and smells of a heritage railway brought back to life.
From grandparents reliving the golden age of steam to little ones seeing their first locomotive, the GWSR is a day out everyone can enjoy together.

Hop on board and travel 14 miles through some of Gloucestershire’s most beautiful countryside.

Starting at Cheltenham Race Course and running all the way to Broadway, the line winds through the rolling green hills of the Cotswolds,

passes through the historic Greet Tunnel and crosses the striking picture-perfect Stanway Viaduct.

A simple, memorable day out full of charm - just trains, views and plenty of smiles along the way.

More Than Just a Train Ride

Our lovingly restored steam and diesel trains run from spring through to late autumn, with most services on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, weekends and bank holidays. Start your journey at Cheltenham, Winchcombe, Toddington or Broadway – and hop on and off along the line as you explore.

Every visit brings something different:

  • Steam & Diesel Services – heritage locomotives running throughout the season.

  • A 14-Mile Scenic Route – stretching from Cheltenham Race Course to Broadway, passing through the historic Greet Tunnel and across the Stanway Viaduct.

  • Charming Stations – each with its own character, traditional features and cafés.

  • Unmissable Events – from the magical Santa Express to railway galas, classic vehicle shows and fish and chip specials

  • Unique Experiences – step onto the footplate or take the controls with our steam and diesel driver experiences.

The GWSR is about more than trains — it’s about time together, shared moments and discovering something a little out of the ordinary.

Days Out With The Kids

There’s nothing quite like the whoosh of a steam engine and the look on a child’s face as the carriages roll past. It’s the sort of excitement that sticks.

With covered carriages for rainy days, a dedicated play area, picnic spots and plenty to explore at our stations, the railway makes an easy, relaxed day out that keeps young adventurers happy - whatever the weather.
