Cheltenham Race Course - Main Image

As the southern terminus of the line, Cheltenham Race Course Station is where many journeys begin - and it’s a station like no other. Set within the grounds of the world-famous Cheltenham Racecourse, it puts visitors right at the heart of one of Britain’s most iconic sporting venues.

Opened in 1912 by the Great Western Railway to serve racegoers, the station proudly retains the historic spelling of Race Course - two words, just as it was a century ago. Though it closed in 1960, dedicated volunteers restored and reopened it, returning steam and diesel services to the site once more.

Alight Here For…

On race days, there’s nowhere quite like it. The sound of the crowd, the thunder of hooves, and the thrill of the Cheltenham Festival make for an unforgettable atmosphere. The station provides direct access to the racecourse itself, home to the legendary Gold Cup, as well as popular fixtures like the November Meeting and New Year’s Day Racing.

Beyond the racecourse, Cheltenham is one of England’s most elegant Regency towns. Tree-lined promenades, fine architecture, and a lively cultural scene make it a delight to explore. From the world-famous Cheltenham Literature and Jazz Festivals to boutique shopping in Montpellier, there’s plenty to see and do before or after your journey.

Visitor Information

The station is reached via a long sloping ramp from the racecourse entrance down to Platform 1. Level access is available for visitors with mobility needs. Please allow around 15 minutes to reach the platform and purchase tickets, as queues can build during busy times.
