Gotherington
Railway Station
Nestled in the rolling countryside between Winchcombe and Cheltenham, Gotherington Station offers a glimpse of rural railway life at its most tranquil. This picturesque little halt feels like stepping back in time - the kind of place where you can pause, breathe in the fresh air, and watch the world roll gently by.
The original station opened in 1906 on the Great Western Railway’s Honeybourne Line and served local villages until its closure in 1960. Today, the beautifully preserved site stands as a reminder of the golden age of country railways. The original station building is now privately owned and not open to visitors, but its charm can still be admired from the platform.
Please note that Gotherington has a short platform - if you wish to alight, you’ll need to make your way to one of the front two carriages of the train. Access is on foot only, via Granna Lane off the road between Gotherington and Gretton. There’s no car parking or suitable public transport, making it one of the more peaceful and authentic stops along the line - perfect for walkers and photographers alike.
During certain special events, trains may not stop at Gotherington, so we recommend checking the events calendar before your visit.
