Behind the Scenes Experience – A Unique Day Out on the GWSR

Enjoy a truly memorable day with us as we take you behind the scenes of our wonderful heritage railway. This special experience offers an exclusive look at the craftsmanship, dedication, and passion that keep the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway running.

Joining a small, friendly group, you’ll be guided by our knowledgeable volunteers who will share fascinating insights into the work carried out in our Carriage & Wagon workshops. Here, you’ll see first-hand how our skilled teams restore and maintain our fleet of beautifully preserved vintage coaches — a rare opportunity to witness traditional techniques and heritage engineering up close.

Your guides will then accompany you on a steam-hauled journey along part of our line, explaining the history of the railway, how the line was brought back to life by volunteers, and how it is operated today. It’s the perfect way to deepen your appreciation of everything that goes on behind the scenes.

During the day you will also enjoy a ploughman’s lunch, along with plenty of tea, coffee, and cake. There will be time to ask questions, explore, and take photographs.

At the end of your visit, you’ll take home a certificate and a selection of mementoes as a reminder of your unique day out at the GWSR.
